The Official Opening in Hoima in September 2006
The project iCity is implemented by a public private partnership between UGAPRIVI, Diamond ICT Ltd and SEQUA, the non-profit service organisation of the German Chambers and Employers’ Associations. Its aim is to initiate a professional ICT knowledge transfer within the vocational training sector throughout Uganda.

The first pilot training for 20 UGAPRIVI trainers started on Monday 29 May 2006 at the Diamond ICT headquarters in Kampala. To ensure high quality of the pilot training programme curricula based on internationally acknowledged standards are used. Furthermore for each and every participant one computer is available, which accelerates the learning process. To stimulate the knowledge transfer, the facilitators also use a variety of training methods always combined with topic related exercises and tasks.

After attending the pilot training programme, the UGAPRIVI trainers will then spread their gained  knowledge into the regions by training further instructors. Thereby they will use the Diamond Computer Labs in the UGAPRIVI Regional Offices. The first computer lab was officially opened and handed over to UGAPRIVI on 22 September 2006. The opening of the second lab followed on 3 November 2006 in Kabale. The computer labs in the other regions were installed as follows: Masaka in February 2007, Mbale in March 2007 and Lira in July 2007.
